Hub: A significant meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hub Rohana Gul Kakar discussed the implementation of the Handout Child Protection Program, addressing major challenges including the lack of shelter homes and the economic hardships forcing children into labor.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting saw the participation of the Social Welfare Child Protection Unit Focal Person Noreen and other officials. The discussion emphasized the need for technical assistance from the district administration to bolster child protection measures and safeguard children from violence and exploitation. The focal person highlighted the absence of adequate shelter for affected children in the district, presenting it as a critical issue that needs immediate attention.
The economic constraints faced by many families were also addressed, with insights into how poverty compels parents to send their children to work in factories where they are at risk of facing abuse. Noreen elaborated on the objectives of the Balochistan Child Protection Act, 2016, which aims to protect children in the region from all forms of abuse, including physical, mental, and emotional harm.
Under this act, the Government of Balochistan, supported by the District Administration and overseen by the Permanent Child Protection Unit of the Department of Social Welfare, is responsible for child protection. The Child Protection Unit’s duties involve receiving and investigating complaints of child abuse and providing necessary support to the victims.
Deputy Commissioner Rohana Gul Kakar reassured that the district administration will fully support the enforcement of the Balochistan Child Protection Act to ensure the safety and well-being of children at the district level.
