Dhaka: High Commissioner Mr. Imran Haider met with H.E. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the President of Bangladesh, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations and collaborative efforts between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The meeting highlighted the ongoing positive momentum in their relationship and explored various avenues for future cooperation.

According to Press Information Department, the President expressed his appreciation for the felicitation message sent by Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan, on his assumption of office. He also acknowledged an invitation to visit Pakistan and expressed his intention to undertake the visit at his earliest convenience.

The President emphasized the shared historical, cultural, and familial ties between the two nations, noting these as a strong basis for enhancing bilateral collaborations in sectors such as health, science and technology, and cultural exchanges. Discussions also covered potential cooperation in pharmaceuticals, ceramics, and agriculture.

High Commissioner Haider briefed the President on ongoing initiatives, highlighting the rise in medical tourism from Bangladesh to Pakistan and the training of Bangladeshi health professionals in organ transplantation. He also mentioned the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor, which has seen around 200 Bangladeshi students enrolled in top Pakistani universities and training courses for Bangladeshi civil servants.

On the topic of air connectivity, the High Commissioner pointed out the growing demand for more flight frequencies and routes, which the President agreed could boost business, cultural, and people-to-people contacts. Both sides acknowledged the untapped potential for cooperation and agreed to build on existing momentum through sustained engagements.
