Islamabad: Significant monsoon rains are forecasted to impact various regions of Pakistan from the evening of August 14 through August 18. The upcoming weather event, influenced by a low-pressure system from northwestern India and a westerly wave, promises widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country, with potential for torrential downpours and associated hazards such as flash floods and landslides.
According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the system will bring moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, affecting multiple regions. Expected conditions include rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in areas like Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The most intense rainfall is anticipated between the night of August 14 and August 16.
Regions such as Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are particularly at risk for flash flooding and landslides, especially in hilly areas. Urban centers including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Peshawar might face urban flooding due to the heavy downpour. The National Weather Forecasting Centre has also issued advisories for possible disruptions, including damage to structures and impacts on daily activities, urging caution and preparedness from residents and travelers.
Authorities across Pakistan have been advised to remain alert and take necessary measures to mitigate the effects of the expected severe weather conditions. Travelers and tourists are specifically warned to adjust their plans to avoid risks associated with the heavy rains and potential landslides.
