Government Aims for 30% Electric Vehicles by 2030, Says Minister

Islamabad: The government of Pakistan is implementing measures to boost investment, particularly in the electric vehicle sector, aiming to have 30 percent of vehicles on the road powered by electricity by 2030, according to Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for National Food Security and Research.

According to Radio Pakistan, the minister highlighted during a ceremony in Islamabad that the establishment of charging stations is crucial for fostering an electric vehicle culture. The government has mandated that high-rise buildings include charging facilities in their parking areas. Furthermore, development authorities such as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) are instructed to issue approval certificates only to projects that incorporate these charging stations.

The minister further noted that efforts are underway to install charging facilities along motorways, which is expected to support the transition to electric vehicles and attract further investment in the sector.
