Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, conducted a meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on IT Export Remittances at the Finance Division, focusing on enhancing IT export remittances through strategic evaluations and next steps.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting reviewed the preliminary findings of a working group and proposed expanding its scope by including representatives from the Pakistan Banking Association. Attendees included Minister of State for IT and Telecom Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary IT, and other senior officials.
The committee decided to form two sub-working groups focused on Taxation and Banking to address barriers and simplify remittance processes for IT exporters and freelancers. The Finance Minister highlighted the role of currency stability and stressed the importance of policy continuity.
Misconceptions about restrictions on financial operations were addressed, with a focus on communication campaigns to bridge perception gaps. Incentives based on IT companies’ performance were discussed to encourage growth and competitiveness.
The meeting reiterated the importance of leveraging tools like the Roshan Digital Account and creating domestic payment solutions for global remittance facilitation. The sub-working groups are expected to submit a report at the next meeting, with a final comprehensive report due by March 2025. The Finance Minister urged stakeholders to collaborate in establishing Pakistan as a key player in the IT export industry.
