Islamabad: The Finance Minister of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has underscored the need for diversifying trade and enhancing market access between Pakistan and Canada, with a focus on agriculture and agricultural commodities. This call was made during a meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, in Islamabad, as both nations seek to strengthen their economic ties.

According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions between the Finance Minister and the High Commissioner centered on bilateral economic relations, trade and investment opportunities, and ways to bolster economic cooperation. The Finance Minister highlighted Pakistan’s recent economic progress, including efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability and advance structural reforms, which have improved the country’s sovereign credit profile.

The meeting also addressed measures to enhance investor confidence and facilitate Canadian investment in Pakistan. The High Commissioner emphasized the potential for expanding Canadian business presence in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and renewable energy. Additionally, the discussion covered the export processing zone regime and Canadian-linked recycled clothing businesses, with the Finance Minister noting the employment and environmental benefits of these operations.

In highlighting the government’s privatization agenda, the Finance Minister expressed interest in attracting long-term international investors and expanding commercial partnerships with Canadian businesses. The Canadian High Commissioner appreciated these efforts and reiterated Canada’s commitment to expanding trade and investment ties, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the business communities of both countries.
