New York: The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged in discussions with Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, focusing on Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) fleet modernization and the enhancement of the country’s aviation sector. The meeting took place during the senator’s visit to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Press Information Department, Boeing has confirmed plans to provide a revised proposal for the acquisition of new aircraft to PIA. This proposal will explore options for earlier delivery slots and interim leasing arrangements. The discussions also included potential financing support from the US Export-Import Bank, engine procurement, spare parts, and the maintenance and restoration of grounded aircraft.

The Finance Minister shared details on PIA’s privatization strategy and the plan to outsource the management of major airports. He expressed appreciation for Boeing’s support in aviation-safety capacity and regulatory engagement. The restoration of direct flights to the United States was also a topic of conversation, with the minister emphasizing the strong long-term growth potential of Pakistan’s aviation sector.
