Federal Minister Approves Road Infrastructure Projects to Enhance Tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has approved a series of major road infrastructure projects aimed at boosting tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, following a high-level meeting at the National Highway Authority (NHA) headquarters. The minister emphasized the region’s tourism potential and directed the commencement of key road constructions and upgrades.



According to Press Information Department, the approved projects include constructing a 54km road from Astore to Chilam Chowki and a 31km road from Skardu to Deosai. The minister mandated that all new roads maintain a minimum width of 7.3 meters, with existing narrow paths to be widened and paved to ensure long-term durability and safety in challenging terrains.



Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted the need for international-standard infrastructure in the northern areas, stating that a superior road network is essential for the tourism industry. Additional projects include roads to Upper Kachura, Basho, and Shigar, a 36km stretch from Karakoram Highway to Naltar Scenic Lake, and a 12km road to Fairy Meadows. The minister instructed the NHA to collaborate closely with the Gilgit-Baltistan government and prepare a comprehensive briefing on all tourism-focused road initiatives to ensure timely completion.
