Islamabad: The powers of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court are explicitly defined in the Constitution to avoid any ambiguity regarding their jurisdiction, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar stated. The establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court, as part of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, aims to centralize the interpretation of constitutional cases and ensure uniformity in judicial interpretations.

According to Press Information Department, speaking at a ceremony hosted by the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi Bench, the Federal Minister emphasized the principle of equal provincial representation in the Federal Constitutional Court. He noted that the constitutional framework for cases under its jurisdiction is clear, ensuring that the decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court are applicable to all relevant courts to uphold the rule of law.

Senator Tarar highlighted the importance of appropriate representation of Pakistan’s federating units in the judicial system, considering the country’s diverse social, cultural, and regional circumstances. He announced that Bar Associations now fall under the ambit of government support, alongside Bar Councils, and noted the increase in grants from both the federal and Punjab governments for these bodies.

The Minister also addressed the Lawyers Protection Act, stating that rules have been framed to implement the law effectively, which remains a priority. He pointed out the need to regulate private law colleges to improve legal education quality and introduce an effective assessment system for entering the profession.

Senator Tarar acknowledged the growing participation of women in the legal profession as a positive development and urged lawyers to prioritize professional responsibilities over political differences. He was welcomed warmly at the Lahore High Court Bar, Rawalpindi, where he also inaugurated two bar rooms. President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi Bench, Saeed Yousaf Khan, and Secretary General Qasim Mahmood Malik also addressed the ceremony.
