Federal Health Minister Announces Comprehensive Observance of World AIDS Day

Islamabad, In anticipation of World AIDS Day on 1st December, Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan conveyed a message of unwavering commitment to curtailing the spread of AIDS and ensuring no repeat of the 2019 HIV outbreak.

According to a news release by the Press International Department, Dr. Nadeem Jan presided over a preparatory session in Islamabad concerning the forthcoming World AIDS Day. Present at the meeting were Dr. Baseer Khan Achakzai and representatives from several international and national health organizations, including Common Management Unit, APLHIV, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, and WHO.

Highlighting the importance of preventive measures, Dr. Jan identified unsafe injection practices, unprotected sexual activity, and the sharing of contaminated needles as typical causes for HIV outbreaks. He expressed the government’s resolve to avert another episode akin to the HIV outbreak witnessed in Larkana, Ratodero (Sindh) in 2019. Dr. Jan stressed the government’s dedication to eradicating AIDS, ensuring everyone, irrespective of age, gender, or population group, benefits from equal access to the latest HIV preventive measures and treatments.

Dr. Jan characterized World AIDS Day as an occasion to demonstrate empathy and support for those living with HIV. Activities would encompass disseminating information about resources, promoting support groups, and championing the rights and well-being of those affected by HIV. Concluding his address, Dr. Jan assured that the Ministry of NHSR and C would commemorate World AIDS Day with enthusiasm and vigor.
