KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the inauguration of the Fawaz Waqasi Community Centre in Gizri, marking a step towards improving social infrastructure in the city. The Mayor emphasized the importance of community centres as essential facilities for citizens, aiming to provide suitable venues for public events.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser Syed Najmi Alam, Lyari Town Chairman Khalil Hot, and other local leaders. Speaking at the event, Mayor Wahab highlighted the need for more community centres to accommodate citizens who lack access to large venues for social activities. He stated that the local government is committed to establishing additional centres across Karachi, ensuring better access to facilities for all residents.

Mayor Wahab reiterated the city’s commitment to using public resources solely for development and citizen welfare. He noted ongoing development projects in Karachi, including road rehabilitation, park renovations, and infrastructure improvements. The Mayor underscored the importance of practical measures in public service, contrasting them with less effective approaches.

He also addressed the historical challenges faced by Karachi, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has made significant progress in improving the city’s condition. The Mayor dismissed calls for a separate administrative unit for Karachi, advocating instead for an effective local government system and equitable resource distribution as solutions to the city’s issues.

Mayor Wahab assured citizens that efforts to enhance Karachi’s facilities and social environment would continue, with a focus on transparency and accelerated development projects. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would contribute to making Karachi a better city, fulfilling the commitments made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
