Islamabad, In preparation for the imminent general elections, a crucial meeting was convened at the Civil Secretariat in Quetta. Presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja, the gathering witnessed discussions centered on ensuring a clean, transparent, and peaceful electoral process. Various high-ranking officials from different regions attended the meeting, during which strategies for maintaining an unbiased electoral environment were discussed.
Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja emphasized the paramount importance of hosting clean and transparent elections, highlighting it as a significant national responsibility. Asserting that any negligence in the process would be unacceptable, he pledged the full support of the Election Commission to the caretaker government. He underscored that the transparent conduct of the polls would fortify the democratic foundations of the nation. Mr. Raja also stressed that transfers of officers in the lead-up to the elections should be based purely on merit, free from political influence.
The Provincial Election Commissioner for Balochistan, Sharifullah, updated attendees on the progress made concerning electoral preparations, reviewing the roadmap ahead. In detailing the efforts of the provincial government, Chief Secretary Balochistan affirmed that the government is dedicated to upholding the directives of the Election Commission, ensuring a harmonious and efficient election process throughout the province.
The meeting provided insights into the voter statistics, revealing that 52,84,594 voters are registered for the 16 general seats of the Balochistan National Assembly and 51 provincial assembly general seats. A total of 5,067 polling stations will be established throughout the province, with over 2,000 each being categorized as highly sensitive and sensitive. Mr. Raja directed District Election Commissioners to inspect all proposed polling stations promptly, guaranteeing their readiness.
To ensure seamless administrative procedures, the Chief Secretary of Balochistan declared that the provincial government would implement all transfer postings in line with the Election Commission’s directives. A comprehensive security strategy, including a Quick Response Force on standby, was also presented by the IG Balochistan, ensuring that the polls would be conducted peacefully.
