Efforts Underway to Retrieve Body of Climber Dr. Asma from Spantik Mountain

Gilgit: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that every possible effort is being made to retrieve the body of climber Dr. Asma, who recently died on Spantik Mountain in the Karakoram Range. According to Radio Pakistan, Tarar detailed that High Altitude Porters are expected to reach Camp-3 to facilitate the retrieval and bring the body down to the base camp by tomorrow.

In a post shared on X, Tarar stated that a rescue team had reached near Camp-3 but was forced to turn back to Camp-2 due to severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and strong winds. He also mentioned that a helicopter has been authorized for the mission, with coordination established between the Gilgit-Baltistan Government and Force Command Northern Areas to ensure the retrieval efforts continue despite challenges.

Tarar further noted that alternate arrangements are in place to address any unforeseen complications. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being regularly updated on the ongoing situation, underscoring the government’s commitment to resolving the matter expediently.
