ECC Observes Price Stabilization and Eases Inflationary Trends on Essential Commodities

Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, led by Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened at the Finance Division, observing signs of price stabilization in essential commodities, according to a press release from the Press Information Department. The ECC noted that recent data suggests a moderation in inflationary pressures following coordinated efforts at various government levels.

According to the press release, the Chief Economist from the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives informed the ECC about trends in economic indicators and inflation dynamics. The efforts of the National Price Monitoring Committee have been pivotal in enhancing market oversight, enabling timely interventions, and leading to a slowdown in the price increases of essential items, reflected in a declining Sensitive Price Index (SPI).

The ECC was briefed on the convergence of prices toward stable levels, with some essential commodities returning close to pre-volatility benchmarks. Effective administrative measures, improved supply chain monitoring, and enhanced federal-provincial coordination have been credited for these improvements. The ECC emphasized the importance of maintaining these efforts for sustained price stability and consumer protection.

Additionally, the ECC approved several proposals, including Technical Supplementary Grants (TSGs) across various ministries. This includes Rs. 100 million for the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority, Rs. 311 million for the Government of Balochistan, Rs. 372 million for the National Accountability Bureau, and Rs. 30 million for the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination.

The ECC also reviewed financial allocations for PIA Holding Company Limited, amendments to the Import Policy Order, and the Export Facilitation Scheme. The committee approved measures for the export of donkey meat and hides and considered a Public Service Obligation Agreement with Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies.

The meeting was attended by several federal ministers, special assistants, and senior officials from relevant ministries, divisions, and regulatory authorities.
