LONDON: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during a meeting with Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez in London.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar expressed appreciation for the IMO’s role as the primary international regulatory authority for safe, secure, and efficient international shipping. He extended gratitude to the Secretary-General for his support in the ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of ten Pakistani seafarers currently held captive aboard MT Honour-25.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need for urgent and effective institutional intervention to facilitate the early return of all seafarers. He also highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives to enhance maritime governance, implement international maritime standards, and further develop its blue economy.

In their discussions, Dar and Dominguez explored avenues for strengthening Pakistan-IMO cooperation in maritime safety, security, regulatory reforms, and the development of Pakistan’s maritime sector.
