Lahore: Najam Mazari, head of a research institute focused on organic food and products, has urged for immediate measures to enhance agricultural development and increase Pakistan’s export share in global markets. He highlighted the need for modernizing the agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of increasing per-acre yields to meet economic growth targets under the “Uraan Pakistan” initiative.
According to China Pakistan Economic Corridor, Mazari stated that comprehensive planning is essential, involving industrial and agricultural clusters, development of value chains, and stronger integration with global supply chains. He mentioned that achieving the target of $100 billion in exports would require the creation of export-oriented clusters to connect producers with essential resources and international buyers.
Mazari noted the opportunities presented by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor for agricultural advancement, but emphasized the need for greater attention to the sector to fulfill economic requirements. He advocated for increased investment, adoption of modern technologies, and improvements in product quality to meet domestic demands and boost international competitiveness.
He further stressed the promotion of organic agriculture as a complementary approach to conventional farming, which could enhance food safety and create new export opportunities.
