New York: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with Jean-Noël Barrot, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting focused on reviewing bilateral relations between Pakistan and France and discussing regional and global developments.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s aspiration to enhance bilateral ties through increased political engagement, trade and investment, educational collaborations, and people-to-people exchanges. Dar expressed appreciation for France’s support for the two-state solution, particularly its decision to limit imports from Israeli settlements. Both ministers agreed on the need for the Palestine issue to remain prominent on the international agenda, advocating for sustained global efforts towards a just and comprehensive resolution.

In discussions on Iran, both representatives underscored the significance of ongoing diplomatic engagement and regional efforts to address the crisis while highlighting the importance of implementing the Islamabad MoU. They also emphasized ensuring the safety and free flow of maritime traffic and uninterrupted energy supplies due to the economic implications of disruptions.

The French Foreign Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability and concurred on the importance of leveraging regional forums to tackle challenges and foster dialogue. Both sides committed to maintaining close engagement on bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest.
