Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has condemned a recent attack by Houthi forces on a Tanzanian-flagged commercial vessel in the Red Sea, which resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani sailors and injuries to six others. All injured sailors have safely returned to Pakistan, while the remains of the deceased have been repatriated.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar expressed strong disapproval of the attack and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of seafarers at all times. He affirmed the government’s commitment to providing assistance to the injured sailors and support to the families of those who lost their lives.
The Deputy Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah and the Embassy in Riyadh for facilitating the return of the injured sailors and the repatriation of the deceased, despite the absence of a Pakistani diplomatic mission in Yemen. He also acknowledged the role of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other stakeholders in ensuring the smooth arrival and further arrangements for the sailors in Pakistan.
Dar expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly regarding medical assistance and logistical support provided in Jeddah.
