Complete plans afoot to shift Madhubala to Safari Park: Nasir Shah

Karachi, April 28, 2023 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that all precautionary measures will be taken for shift Madhubala Safari Park from Karachi Zoo and proposals to build a sanctuary for elephants in the safari park should be sent to the Sindh government, including the elephants’ other large animals fully scanned should be done.

He said this while presiding over a meeting regards Karachi Zoo and Safari Park. Additional Chief Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah, Administrator Karachi Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman, Head of FORPAZ Team Dr. Aamir Khalili, Katrina Hussain, Sabina Dawood, Dr. Javed Memon, Director Zoo Kunwar Ayub, Owais Khan Advocate and other members of the FORPAZ team and Officers were also present.

Minister Nasir Shah said that the Sindh government is providing all kinds of support for the welfare of animals and we are saddened by the passing away of NoorJahan. He said that the way the Forpaz team cooperated with the zoo management in the treatment of Noor Jahan is commendable.

He added that it is hoped that we will continue to receive the support of this international organization in the future so that if the animals are sick, they can be treated with internationally accepted methods. Administrator Karachi Dr. Syed Saifur Rahman while giving a briefing on this occasion said that the transfer of Madhu Bala from Karachi Zoo will be done before Eid-ul-Azha.

A traffic plan has been prepared, it will be implemented according to the procedures and criteria specified by the Forpaz team. He said that 20 acres of area has been allocated for the safari park for large animals.

Skill training for elephants has been started, blood samples of three tigers and one tiger at Karachi Zoo have been collected yesterday. All animals will be scanned in the same way. He said that the century which will be built for Madhu Bala will be named Noor Jahan. Minister Nasir Shah said that he had proposed to build a 1000-acre safari park on the Super Highway and it should also be reviewed so that a big safari park can be built for the citizens of Karachi.

He added that the health of the elephants Sonia and Malika, already present in the Safari Park, should be taken care of and they should also be fully scanned. On this occasion it was decided that the second meeting of the task force will be held on May 4, in which the future course of action will be decided.
