Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed solidarity with victims of earthquakes and other natural disasters in Pakistan and globally, reaffirming her commitment to enhancing Punjab’s resilience on the occasion of World Day for Earthquake Victims. She highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, comprehensive planning, and increased public awareness to mitigate the impacts of such disasters.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the chief minister in her message shared the grief of families affected by the 2005 earthquake, noting that the memories of those lost remain vivid. She commended the inclusion of natural disaster education in the curriculum through the Pakistan School Safety Framework as a positive initiative.
Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized ongoing investments in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite modeling, along with modern construction technologies, as crucial strategies for preventing damage from disasters like earthquakes. She also pointed to the Punjab government’s recent efforts in disaster prevention and rehabilitation, referencing the swift response to recent floods in Punjab, which involved rescue and relief operations for thousands of people.
Additionally, CM Nawaz stated that effective government measures for disaster prevention contribute to a sense of security among the public, underscoring the importance of continued efforts in this area.
