Chairman Senate Highlights Role of Sufi Values in Fostering Tolerance

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has underscored the significance of Pakistan’s Sufi heritage in cultivating tolerance and social harmony. He noted that the teachings of Sufi saints offer critical insights into tackling modern challenges related to polarization and intolerance.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani spoke at the inauguration of the “Sufism & Culture” art exhibition by artists Roomi and Aiman at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). He praised the PNCA for organizing the event and commended the artists for exploring a theme deeply embedded in Pakistan’s spiritual and cultural history.

Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s rich Sufi traditions, which have significantly influenced various aspects of the country’s culture, including poetry, music, architecture, and folklore. He remarked that the message of Sufism, which advocates for respect, compassion, and coexistence, is increasingly relevant in today’s world.

The Chairman Senate emphasized that Sufi teachings remind humanity of the superiority of respect over hatred, dialogue over confrontation, and coexistence over exclusion, asserting that these principles can contribute to establishing more peaceful and inclusive societies.

He also lauded the artistic efforts of Roomi and Aiman, noting that their work illustrates how Pakistan’s cultural heritage continues to inspire modern expression and engage younger generations with enduring spiritual values. Gilani expressed his gratitude to PNCA and all individuals involved in making the exhibition a reality.

The event drew a diverse audience, including artists, cultural figures, diplomats, art enthusiasts, and other distinguished guests. Notable attendees included Senators Atta Ur Rehman, Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Atta Ul Haq, and Dilawar Khan, alongside famous artists and renowned personalities.
