Phnom Penh: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, addressed the inaugural session of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Phnom Penh, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary unity and collective action to tackle global challenges. The conference was attended by Cambodian Prime Minister H.E. Hun Manet and the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Sen.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Chairman Gilani expressed gratitude to the Cambodian leadership for their hospitality and thanked His Majesty the King of Cambodia for his message. He highlighted Prime Minister Hun Manet’s presence as a strong indication of Cambodia’s dedication to parliamentary dialogue. Gilani also acknowledged Samdech Hun Sen’s role in facilitating the gathering of parliamentary leaders.

Chairman Gilani’s address centered on the theme “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity – Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully.” He called for enhanced parliamentary diplomacy to address issues such as armed conflicts, terrorism, climate change, and economic inequality. Proposing the development of rapid response mechanisms within the ISC, he emphasized the need for adherence to international law to ensure global peace and stability.

Drawing from Pakistan’s own experiences, Gilani noted that parliamentary diplomacy can offer new dialogue opportunities when traditional channels are limited. He pointed to Pakistan’s collaboration with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as examples of efforts toward regional peace. Citing Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, he urged parliamentarians to lead with courage and unity.

Earlier in the conference, Chairman Gilani led a delegation of speakers in a courtesy call with Samdech Hun Sen. The ISC, hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia, aims to foster dialogue on peace, development, and global cooperation among parliamentary leaders.
