Islamabad: In a significant development for Pakistan’s housing finance sector, approvals under the Apna Ghar initiative have surged by 84 percent, with the total approved financing nearly doubling to approximately 280 billion rupees. Loan disbursements have risen by 59 percent, marking a considerable increase in the initiative’s reach and impact.
According to Radio Pakistan, Khurram Schehzad, Adviser to the Finance Minister, highlighted these advancements in a recent post on the social media platform X. He detailed the progress made across several key sectors since June 2026, emphasizing the country’s strategic direction towards financing homes, farms, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), electric vehicles (EVs), and exports, with the aim of converting stability into opportunity, investment, and growth.
Schehzad noted the agriculture sector’s notable expansion in formal credit, with about 115,000 additional borrowers gaining access to financing. The Zarkhez-e programme saw a 12 percent increase in approvals and a 13 percent rise in disbursements. In the SME sector, around 330,000 businesses are now accessing formal financing totaling 1.05 trillion rupees.
The adviser also pointed out the government’s efforts in directing export financing towards working capital, business investment, refinancing, and export-related incentives. Furthermore, the PAVE initiative has seen a 24 percent increase in approvals and a 34 percent rise in disbursements, contributing to a more than threefold increase in EV deliveries.
Schehzad stated that the overarching goal is to channel capital into productive activities, broaden economic opportunities, and enable more Pakistanis to actively participate in the country’s growth trajectory.
