Peshawar, The International Customs Day-2024 celebrations, held at the Customs House in Peshawar on January 26, 2024, saw a significant appreciation for the efforts of Pakistan Customs by the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana. The event was attended by a distinguished gathering including Consul Generals of friendly countries, senior Military and Civil Officers, and representatives from various trade bodies.
According to Federal Board of Revenue, the ceremony began with Chairman FBR laying a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ monument, followed by an inspection of the parade and the hoisting of the National and Customs flags. In his address, Chairman Tiwana lauded the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Customs for their anti-smuggling activities and revenue collection in the first half of the current fiscal year. He expressed optimism for the continuation of this momentum in the future.
Emphasizing the evolving trade and enforcement dynamics globally, Tiwana acknowledged the challenges and opportunities this brings, citing examples such as transit trade, TIR, and Carnet that demand robust collaboration with various stakeholders.
International Customs Day, celebrated annually to commemorate the inaugural session of the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) on January 26, 1953, honors the establishment of the Council and its evolution into the World Customs Organization (WCO). The WCO annually sets a unique theme for the event, with this year’s theme being “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose”.
Chief Collector of Customs, Mr. Saeed Akram, in his welcome speech, highlighted the achievements and sacrifices of the KP Customs staff, noting that 30 officers and soldiers have embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
The event concluded with the distribution of meritorious certificates to staff members who had rendered exceptional services during the year, marking a tribute to their dedication and commitment.
