Islamabad: The Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases has approved amendments to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance, 2002, and several other legislative and regulatory drafts, while postponing decisions on certain aspects of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025, until the legislative process is complete.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, and it addressed a variety of legislative and regulatory matters. The committee conducted a detailed review of the proposed amendments to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance and endorsed the changes.

The committee also reviewed the draft Public Procurement Rules, 2025, but decided to delay decisions on aspects related to the rules that are tied to the proposed legislation until the legislative process is concluded. Additionally, the meeting focused on transparency, accountability, oversight, grievance redressal, and conflict of interest prevention within the public procurement framework.

The committee approved the OGRA (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and proposed amendments to the SMEDA Ordinance, 2002. It also discussed and approved the draft Petroleum Rules, 2025, which address the transportation and storage of petroleum products and include safety requirements.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted the importance of comprehensive legal and technical scrutiny in the legislative process and advocated for strengthening transparency, accountability, and oversight in public procurement. He also emphasized the need for effective grievance redressal and institutional independence in the procurement system.

The meeting concluded with a decision to initiate the necessary legal and official actions on the approved legislative and regulatory drafts.
