By-polls in 20 constituencies of Punjab / Punjab Police security plan final 

Lahore, July 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that Punjab Police will use all available resources to ensure fool proof arrangements for the peaceful conduct of by-elections and implementation of Election Commission’s code of conduct in all constituencies will be ensured in all cases.

IG Punjab has directed the RPOs, DPOs to personally monitor the security arrangements and take steps under a comprehensive strategy to maintain law and order situation before, on and after the elections. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that Punjab Police would provide all possible support to the Election Commission during by-elections and election process would be completed with full transparency and complete impartiality.

DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir said that Punjab Police has finalized the security plan for the by-elections in 20 constituencies of Punjab and as per the orders of IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan. DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir said that a total of more than 52,000 personnel and officers in 14 districts of Punjab would be on duty in the by-elections.

More than 3,100 polling stations have been set up in 14 districts across province. Similarly, with 100 anti-riots force personnel will be on duty in each constituency to control any untoward situation. Regarding the elections held in the provincial capital Lahore, DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir said that 465 polling stations have been set up in four constituencies of Lahore including 122 A category and 343 B category polling stations and more than 8000 personnel and officers will be deployed on election security.

DIG Operations Punjab said that an effective plan would be adopted to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the by-election constituencies so that the citizens coming to cast their votes would not face any difficulty or hassle. The Punjab Police spokesperson further said that a special control room has been set up in the Central Police Office for full monitoring of the election process which will ensure close coordination with the Election Commission.

He said that non-discriminatory action would be taken against violations of election code of conduct including aerial firing, display of weapons, keeping armed guards and fighting. Waqas Nazir said that fool proof arrangements have been made for safe delivery of election materials and ballot boxes and close coordination is being ensured with the Provincial Election Commission for security arrangements for by-elections. DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir further said that IG Punjab has given special task to the special branch and intelligence agencies to monitor the by-elections and effective coordination with all agencies must be ensured for transparent and peaceful elections.
