Brussels, A significant protest was held in front of the Indian Embassy in Brussels to coincide with India’s Republic Day, marked as a ‘Black Day’ by the demonstrators. The peaceful protest, despite inclement weather, drew a number of Kashmiris and their supporters.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration was organized by the Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) and supported by various other organizations. KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed led the protest. Participants displayed banners with anti-India slogans and calls for Kashmir’s freedom from what they deem as India’s illegal occupation. The demonstrators urged India to cease its alleged atrocities in Kashmir and to honor its commitments regarding the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Prominent figures such as Chaudhary Khalid Joshi, Rao Mostejab, Sardar Mahmood Iqbal, Andre Barcs Nadeem Mahar, Syed Aslam Shah, Zahid Shah, Zaheer Zahid, Shazia Aslam, and others were present at the protest.
In his address to the demonstrators, KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed called for an end to human rights violations reportedly committed by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. He emphasized the need for India to resolve the Kashmir dispute by recognizing the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, asserting that this step is crucial for achieving lasting peace in South Asia.
The protest in Brussels highlights the continued international advocacy and support for the Kashmir cause, particularly on significant days like India’s Republic Day, which are used by activists to draw attention to the longstanding dispute.
