Srinagar, As the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq approaches on May 21, the Awami Action Committee (AAC) has outlined a series of events to commemorate its founding chairman, despite the continued house detention of its current leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The AAC criticized the restrictions that have kept Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from participating in public religious and social events.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the AAC has announced plans to hold prayers and other activities to honor the legacy of Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq. The organization expressed that despite the challenging circumstances, including the inability of their chairman to deliver Friday sermons at Jama Masjid in Srinagar, they are committed to preserving and promoting the values he embodied. These values include living selflessly and adhering to the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet’s Sunnah.
The AAC has scheduled a Majlis e Quran khwani and Muqabla Husne Qirat at Jama Masjid on May 17, followed by an educational seminar on May 18 at Islamia School, Srinagar. Additionally, a commemorative gathering is planned at Eid Gah on May 21, pending authorities’ permission, to pay respects not only to Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq but also to other martyrs. These events are designed to reflect the enduring spirit and resilience of the Kashmiri people under ongoing constraints.
