As per orders of IG Punjab crackdown against manufacture, sale and use of modern narcotic drugs like meth, ice, hashish, heroin and alcohol

Lahore, February 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that crackdown against smugglers, dealers and other criminals involved in drug trafficking should be intensified in all districts of the province to protect the citizens especially the youth from the menace of drugs. He said that criminals involved in drug use and supply chain in educational institutions and hostels should be chained on priority basis.

He directed to take strict legal action against manufacture, sale and use of modern narcotic drug i.e meth, sheesha marijuana, heroin and alcohol. Rao Sardar Ali Khan directed the RPOs, DPOs to personally oversee the ongoing operations for eradication of drugs and to intensify the action against organized groups of drug dealers and their facilitators.

He said that anti-drug awareness campaign in public and private educational institutions should be made more effective in collaboration with the Department of Schools and Higher Education.

Spokesperson Punjab Police while giving details of operations against drug dealers in all districts of the province in the first month of this year said that during the month of January, 4403 cases were registered against smugglers and dealers involved in drug supply chain across province.

4488 drug dealers, smugglers and criminals involved in this heinous scam were arrested. Spokesperson of Punjab Police said that 1737 kgs of hashish, 36 kgs of heroin, 2730 Gms of meth and 63248 liters of liquor were recovered from possession of accused.

Giving details of each region of the province, he said that 840 cases were registered against drug dealers in Lahore and 851 persons were arrested and 269 kgs of hashish, 18 kgs of heroin, 374 grams of ice (meth) and 5698 liters of liquor were recovered from their possession.

Similarly, in Sheikhupura region 293 cases were registered against drug dealers and 300 persons were arrested and 161 kgs of hashish and 4121 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. In Gujranwala, 575 cases were registered against drug dealers and 596 persons were arrested and 271 kgs of hashish, 14 kgs of heroin, 2009 Gms of ice and 2823 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

While registering 394 cases against drug dealers in Rawalpindi region, 404 persons were arrested and 189 kg of hashish, 33 grams of ice and 3332 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. In Sargodha region, 150 cases were registered against drug dealers and 162 persons were arrested and 46 kg of hashish and 5702 liters of liquor were recovered from their possession.

While registering 503 cases against drug dealers in Faisalabad region, 503 persons were arrested and 140 kgs of hashish, 0.48 gms of heroin, 0.02 gms of (meth) ice and 7503 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

While 702 cases were registered against drug dealers in Multan region, 704 persons were arrested and 338 kg of hashish, 16 grams of ice (meth) and 12975 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

264 cases were registered against drug dealers in Sahiwal region. A total of 276 persons were arrested and 101 kg of hashish, 4 kg of heroin and 3374 liters of liquor were recovered from their possession. While 258 cases were registered against drug dealers in DG Khan Region, 264 persons were arrested and 137 kgs of hashish, 235 Gms of ice (meth) and 4259 liters of liquor were recovered from their possession.

In Bahawalpur region, 424 cases were registered against drug dealers and 427 persons were arrested and 85.286 kg of hashish, 61 grams of ice (meth) and 13461 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. The Punjab Police spokesperson further said that crackdown on drugs in all the districts of the province would be made more effective as per direction of IG Punjab.
