Punjab: The Punjab Police Special Operations Cell has carried out a significant operation, apprehending a dangerous proclaimed offender wanted in connection with a murder case from Oman and subsequently bringing him back to Pakistan. The proclaimed offender, Yasser Iqbal, who was involved in the murder of a citizen in the Ali Pur Chatta area in 2008, had been evading capture for the past 16 years. After his arrest in Oman with the help of Interpol, he was taken into custody by a team from Gujranwala Police upon his arrival at Lahore Airport.
According to Punjab Police,” the operation was a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies. The arrest marks the 73rd proclaimed offender apprehended from abroad this year by the Punjab Police Special Operations Cell. The police spokesperson highlighted the successful collaboration with international law enforcement bodies such as Interpol in bringing criminals to justice.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar praised RPO Gujranwala Tayyab Hafeez Cheema and CPO Rana Ayaz Saleem for their effective supervision in the capture of the A-category dangerous fugitive. Dr. Anwar has directed that legal proceedings be expedited to ensure that the criminal receives the appropriate punishment. He also emphasized the need for continued cooperation with Interpol and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to capture and extradite other dangerous criminals.
