Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive national framework to ensure the quality, quantity assurance, and safety of food products during a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee.
According to Radio Pakistan, the minister reviewed a report from the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) that highlighted the non-conformance of Banaspati ghee, edible oils, and milk products with established quality standards. He instructed relevant authorities to collaborate with Provincial Food Authorities to develop a coordinated quality-control mechanism and establish clear procedures to address violations.
Additionally, Iqbal addressed a report from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) regarding discrepancies between notified LPG rates and market prices. He urged the Minister for Petroleum to address the issue and tasked the Ministry of Petroleum with formulating guidelines in coordination with OGRA. A meeting to resolve these issues is to be convened within three days.
