ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has acknowledged the significant contributions of minorities to the nation’s development across various sectors such as defense, healthcare, education, politics, and social welfare.
According to Radio Pakistan, during his address at the Eighth International Interfaith Harmony Conference in Islamabad, Gilani emphasized that safeguarding the rights of minorities is not only a constitutional duty but also a religious one. He highlighted that a robust society is characterized by the freedom of people from different faiths to practice their religious rituals openly.
Gilani noted that Pakistan is a multi-religious society where individuals of different beliefs have the right to live in accordance with their faiths. He described the creation of the Senate Minority Caucus as a crucial measure for integrating minorities into the mainstream and ensuring the prompt resolution of their issues. Additionally, Gilani asserted that Pakistan prioritizes dialogue and diplomacy to effectively address regional disputes.
