ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani honored the officers and personnel of the Pakistan Navy on Pakistan Navy Day, highlighting their essential role in safeguarding the country’s maritime frontiers and national interests.
According to Press Information Department, Mr. Gilani emphasized the significance of this day as a time to remember the courage and professionalism of the Pakistan Navy, particularly during the 1965 war. He highlighted the strategic capabilities demonstrated by the Navy, showcasing its commitment to defending Pakistan’s maritime boundaries.
Operation Somnath was cited by Mr. Gilani as a pivotal moment in the Navy’s history, demonstrating strategy and professional competence that significantly weakened the opponent’s defenses. He noted that this operation remains a proud moment in Pakistan’s defense history.
Over the years, the Pakistan Navy has evolved into a modern maritime force capable of addressing new defense and regional challenges, Mr. Gilani stated. Beyond its primary role, the Navy also contributes to maritime security, protection of sea trade routes, international peacekeeping, and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters.
Mr. Gilani reflected on the Navy’s vigilance during Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, underscoring its readiness in protecting Pakistan’s coastal and maritime frontiers. He paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation and commended the ghazis for their service, which he described as a source of national pride.
