Islamabad: On Pakistan Navy Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to the officers, sailors, and civilians of the Pakistan Navy, while paying tribute to the martyrs and veterans who have served the nation. The Prime Minister highlighted the significant historical events and ongoing contributions of the Navy to national defense.

According to Press Information Department, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of September 8 as a day of remembrance and inspiration, recalling the valor demonstrated during the 1965 war, specifically mentioning Operation SOMNATH against the Indian Naval Station, Dwarka. This operation marked a strategic victory for Pakistan Navy, showcasing their precision and establishing a psychological advantage at sea. The presence of the submarine ‘GHAZI’ further restricted enemy movements, marking a pivotal moment in naval warfare history.

He also acknowledged the Navy’s recent role during Marka-e-Haq in 2025, where their preparedness deterred potential acts of aggression by a superior force. Prime Minister Sharif noted the expanded responsibilities of the Navy in contemporary times, particularly their role in securing international sea lines and trade routes. He highlighted the Navy’s recent actions in the Strait of Hormuz, where they ensured the safe passage of Pakistani merchant vessels amid regional tensions.

Beyond defense, the Prime Minister recognized the Navy’s efforts in projecting soft power globally through initiatives like Exercise AMAN and the AMAN Dialogue, which foster international naval collaboration for peace. He also mentioned the Navy’s strong regional goodwill through various operational and technical engagements.

The Prime Minister concluded by affirming the government’s confidence in the Pakistan Navy’s professionalism and readiness, citing recent advancements like the induction of MILGEM class corvettes and HANGOR class submarines as indicators of the Navy’s evolving capabilities and strategic vision.
