Rajouri, Authorities in the district of Rajouri in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have suspended all kinds of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election process. The suspension comes after a report from the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), indicating a high and suspicious use of VPNs in the district in recent days.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the order issued by the District Magistrate Rajouri cited the risks posed by VPN usage, including encrypted data transmissions, IP address masking, and bypassing website blocks and internet firewalls. The order emphasized that such practices could make data related to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and other sensitive information vulnerable to cyber attacks.
The order issued by Additional District Magistrate Rajeev Kumar Khajuria, under Section 144 of the Indian Criminal Procedure Code (Cr. PC), stated that the suspension of all VPNs on mobile phones in district Rajouri would continue until the end of the election process. It also noted that the measure was essential to ensure the protection of sensitive information and prevent potential cyber threats.
The suspension of VPNs has drawn attention to the ongoing security concerns surrounding the election process in IIOJK, with authorities focusing on safeguarding data and preventing cyber attacks during this critical period.
