UN Ambassador Munir Akram Stresses Resolution of Kashmir Dispute for South Asian Peace

Islamabad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, has emphasized that lasting peace, stability, and security in South Asia hinge on a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, aligning with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Akram conveyed this message on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day. He called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue providing moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for their inalienable rights.

Ambassador Akram paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people in their enduring struggle for freedom and self-determination against India’s occupation since 1947. He highlighted that their right to self-determination is recognized by the UNSC resolutions, which mandate a UN-supervised plebiscite, a commitment binding on India, Pakistan, and the UN.

He further stated that the future of the international order, grounded in the principles of the UN Charter, and global peace and security depend on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and securing freedom and self-determination for people under colonization and foreign occupation.

Despite India’s attempts to suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement, Akram noted that the Kashmiri people continue to resist occupation bravely. He concluded by reflecting on the historical lesson that no occupying power can suppress the aspirations of a people committed to sacrificing for their freedom from foreign occupation.
