ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Power Division convened at the Parliament House under the leadership of Mr. Muhammad Idrees, addressing compensation related to power infrastructure damages and future grid developments. The session confirmed previous meeting minutes and examined the status of prior recommendations without issuing further directives.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Committee deliberated on compensating affected households in District Kolai Palas Kohistan with a sum totaling approximately Rs.44.559 million. Additionally, compensation for seven houses impacted by the 132 kV transmission line in District Lower Kohistan was evaluated. The Committee instructed the National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited to produce a comprehensive file for the Water Resources Division to enact necessary payments.
The availability of transformers with Hazara Electric Supply Company and Peshawar Electric Supply Company was also discussed, with emphasis on the establishment of a 132 kV Grid Station in Padhana and the installation of a 40 MVA transformer at Khanpur. The Committee endorsed a report on the grid station’s establishment, to be overseen by the Additional Secretary, Power Division. Concerns over voltage fluctuations, infrastructure deficiencies, and load-shedding were raised, prompting the Minister for Power Division to demand infrastructure investment plans from distribution companies to NEPRA.
An inquiry was advised into alleged irregularities involving equipment in District Haripur, with a comprehensive report to be presented to the Committee. The Committee explored issues around electricity tariffs and consumer complaints, directing detailed information on the subsidy for consumers using up to 200 units. Furthermore, recommendations included removing the subsidy limit, addressing overhead electricity wires, and provisioning transformers to alleviate public electricity concerns.
The Committee plans to reconvene on October 1, 2026, to further address public concerns related to SEPCO and HESCO. The meeting saw attendance from various MNAs and senior officers from relevant power divisions.
