LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced significant steps by the provincial government to enhance environmental protection and promote sustainability in the region. The initiatives aim to safeguard the environment through a comprehensive policy focused on tree plantation, reduction of smog, and promotion of clean energy.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, in her statement on the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, Nawaz emphasized the importance of the ozone layer as a protective shield against the sun’s harmful rays. The chief minister highlighted that the provincial government had introduced a detailed environmental policy for the first time, focusing on creating a “green future” for Punjab.

The government has undertaken extensive tree plantation efforts, with 50 million trees planted over 50,000 acres across the province. In line with the government’s vision for clean energy, green electric bus services are being rolled out in every district and tehsil, and electric bikes are being distributed to students, women, and other citizens. Additionally, the introduction of green taxis has supported the promotion of environmentally friendly transportation options.

Nawaz asserted that the strides made in environmental protection over the past two and a half years have surpassed achievements of previous decades. The chief minister reiterated the province’s commitment to a greener future and encouraged citizens, especially the youth, to adopt sustainable practices to protect the ozone layer and the environment.
