Islamabad: A meeting of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs took place under the leadership of Mr. Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, MNA, at the Parliament House’s Committee Room No. 7 in Islamabad. The session focused on a range of issues, including cyber-enabled financial frauds and infrastructure concerns.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs reported on complaints forwarded to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) by the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs & Grievances Wing during the 2025-26 financial year. A total of 140 complaints were received, addressing cyber financial fraud, cyberbullying, cyber harassment, visa fraud, identity theft, and general grievances.
The NCCIA representative informed the committee of their comprehensive approach to tackling cybercrime. This includes investigation, digital forensics, collaboration with relevant bodies, and public awareness initiatives. A web-based Complaints Management Unit has been established to facilitate complaint submissions through various channels, such as an Email Desk, Online Complaints Portal, and in-person visits at multiple locations.
In addition, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) briefed the committee on its efforts to assist complainants referred by the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs & Grievances Wing. The National Highway Authority (NHA) discussed toll plaza operations and road maintenance on the Okara-Patoki section, focusing on improving commuter experiences.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) addressed complaints regarding financial assistance and the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, emphasizing strict adherence to eligibility criteria. Notably, the government does not provide individual financial support for higher education.
The committee also paid tribute to the late member Ch. Muhammad Bashir Virk, recognizing his dedication and contributions to Parliament and his constituency.
The meeting was attended by several MNAs and senior officers from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, NCCIA, BISP, HEC, and NHA.
