ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the critical role of trees in combating climate change and ensuring environmental protection in a statement on the occasion of National Plantation Day. Addressing the nation, he underlined the urgent need to prioritize tree plantation and forest conservation as essential strategies to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, such as rising temperatures, water scarcity, and increased flooding.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Sadiq highlighted that trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by cleaning the air, providing oxygen, and absorbing carbon dioxide. He noted that unchecked deforestation contributes to increased flood risks and called for large-scale plantation efforts to safeguard the environment. Stressing the importance of proper care and maintenance of planted trees, he urged public participation, particularly from the youth, to embrace tree plantation as a national duty.
The Speaker further emphasized the necessity of a coordinated strategy involving federal and provincial governments, local authorities, educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society to enhance forest cover and implement integrated measures for water management and ecosystem protection. He reiterated Parliament’s commitment to passing legislation aimed at environmental conservation and sustainable resource use, underscoring that environmental protection is a collective responsibility.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also advocated for tree plantation as a means to mitigate climate change impacts, expressing Parliament’s dedication to promoting sustainable development and environment-friendly initiatives.
