KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved a range of significant governance and economic initiatives, including the import of 0.5 million metric tons of wheat and a 7.5 percent increase in the minimum wage. The cabinet also approved restructuring the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit into a government-owned company and extending the Sindh People’s Housing Initiative to Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting, held at the CM House, was attended by key provincial ministers and officials. The decisions made are part of a broader agenda aimed at achieving economic stability, infrastructure development, and improved public service delivery in Sindh. The cabinet’s approval of the Draft Sindh Government Lands Management Bill, 2026, seeks to modernize land governance and promote transparency and investment.

The minimum wage increase, effective from July 1, 2026, raises the monthly wage for unskilled workers to Rs43,000. The cabinet also authorized importing wheat through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan to address a projected wheat shortfall. Additionally, the cabinet approved several other initiatives, including extending employee contracts in Lyari, hiring consultants for the Lyari Transformation Project, and restructuring the PPP Unit to enhance project delivery and financial sustainability.

The cabinet’s decisions are expected to strengthen governance structures, protect workers, and ensure food security and sustainable development across the province.
