Senate of Pakistan Highlights Legislative Successes in Annual Report 2025-2026


Islamabad: The Senate of Pakistan unveiled its Annual Report for the parliamentary year 2025-2026, showcasing significant accomplishments in legislative productivity, robust executive oversight, and expansive global engagement. The report, covering the period from March 12, 2025, to March 11, 2026, underscores the Senate’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandate while positioning Pakistan prominently on the global parliamentary stage.



According to Senate of Pakistan, the year was marked by twelve Senate sessions and three Joint Sittings of Parliament, with a total of 64 sittings over 112 working days. This accounted for 158 hours and 53 minutes of proceedings, increasing to 161 hours and 43 minutes when including Joint Sittings. Legislative participation was strong, with a peak attendance of 88 Senators and an average of 55 per sitting. The Senate also held eleven Private Members’ Days, highlighting its inclusive legislative approach.



The legislative output was substantial, with seventeen Government Bills introduced and fourteen passed alongside thirty-one bills from the National Assembly. In total, thirty-three bills were passed, with private members contributing significantly through forty introduced bills and forty-four passed. Noteworthy legislation included the Constitution (Twenty-seventh Amendment) Bill, 2025, addressing key issues such as national security and economic governance.



The Senate’s oversight role was reinforced through an active Question Hour, with 1,157 starred questions received and 479 answered on the floor. The Senate adopted 19 out of 85 tabled resolutions, with 15 achieving unanimous support. Additionally, 119 motions were addressed, covering economic performance and disaster management, demonstrating the Senate’s responsiveness to public concerns.



The Senate’s 38 Standing and Functional Committees were active, holding 346 meetings and presenting 106 reports. These committees were pivotal in legislative scrutiny and government performance oversight, particularly in areas like finance and internal security. Internationally, the Senate engaged in 37 parliamentary delegations and participated in major global forums, enhancing Pakistan’s voice on critical issues.



A defining achievement was the inaugural Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, attended by delegates from 33 countries. The conference concluded with the Islamabad Communique, promoting dialogue and inclusive development. The event enhanced Pakistan’s international standing as a democratic nation committed to peace and cooperation.



The Senate Secretariat focused on institutional efficiency through research and capacity-building, aided by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services. Media outreach efforts ensured transparency and comprehensive coverage of Senate activities, reinforcing public trust and global visibility.



The Annual Report 2025-2026 reflects the Senate of Pakistan’s significant achievements in legislative and diplomatic arenas, reaffirming its role in democratic governance and international leadership. The Senate remains dedicated to building on these successes for the benefit of the people and federation of Pakistan.
