ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has directed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Airport Security Force (ASF) to take disciplinary action following allegations of misconduct by their staff members. Chaired by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, the committee examined separate incidents involving PIA cabin crew and ASF officials, prompting recommendations for formal inquiries and improved staff training.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee reviewed a privilege motion by Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan Mandokhail concerning the behavior of Ms. Saima Rana, a PIA cabin crew member, during a flight from Quetta to Islamabad. The committee had previously suggested that the staff member contact the senator to apologize, but no contact was made, leading to a call for disciplinary measures. The committee also addressed concerns about social media reports of cigarette smuggling linked to PIA staff, urging an inquiry under relevant laws.

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri raised a privilege motion regarding an ASF official’s conduct during her check-in for a flight to London. She reported inappropriate handling of her luggage and cash, with the ASF officer mixing her belongings with others. An apology was tendered by a senior ASF officer, and the committee has recommended better training for ASF personnel and a formal inquiry within fifteen days.

The committee deferred privilege motions involving other officials due to specific circumstances, including illness and travel abroad.
