Jammu, August 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): Indian authorities imposed Section 144 in parts of Samba district of Jammu region to quell the ongoing protests against the extortion by the Modi regime in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Restrictions under Section 144 were particularly imposed around the Sarore Toll Plaza on the Jammu-Pathankot highway.
Police vehicles were heard making announcements asking the protesters to vacate the toll plaza, where they had come from across the Jammu region for demonstrations. The restrictions were specifically imposed on protests and the assembly of people. However, the protesters were reluctant to comply with the prohibition orders, which eventually led the police to use force on them detaining many of their leaders.
Earlier, hundreds of protesters marched towards the Sarore Toll Plaza from various parts of Jammu. The protest was turned violent and participants of the rally pelted stones at the cabins of the Toll Plaza. “We will not cease protesting until the government issues an immediate order regarding the suspension of the toll plaza,” the protesters said.
Locals voiced their concerns, saying, “Tolls are paid for road maintenance, but when the connectivity is poor, why should we pay? The government should immediately suspend it.”
A heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces was witnessed at the site, with administrative officials also present to pacify the protesters.
The activists held a dharna at the tax plaza and issued a fresh ultimatum to the administration, demanding the suspension of toll collection at Sarore Plaza within next two days.
