Lahore: The Punjab Police, led by Inspector General Abdul Kareem, implemented comprehensive security measures throughout the province, including Lahore, to ensure the safety of mourning processions and gatherings on the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (RA).
According to Punjab Police, more than 30,000 officers and personnel were mobilized for security duties across the region. Specifically, 20,000 officers managed security for 217 mourning processions, while an additional 10,000 personnel were tasked with overseeing 994 gatherings. The provincial capital of Lahore saw the deployment of over 8,000 officers for similar duties.
The police force utilized 2,029 metal detectors and 297 walk-through gates to screen participants of the processions and gatherings. Activities were monitored from the Central Police Office and district Control and Monitoring Rooms, with additional surveillance provided by the Safe Cities Authority and district administration cameras.
IG Punjab emphasized the importance of security against potential threats, instructing officers to closely monitor groups such as Fitna Al-Khawarij and Fitna Al-Hindustan. Enhanced security measures included the deployment of plain-clothes commandos, snipers on rooftops, and lady police personnel for the security of female mourners. Moreover, arrangements were made to maintain traffic flow through alternate routes.
The joint efforts of the Dolphin Squad, PRU, Special Branch, and CTD were coordinated for the occasion, with senior police officers actively monitoring the security arrangements on the ground.
