Lahore: A significant meeting was convened at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department to discuss the provision of free medicines to patients suffering from cancer and heart diseases. The meeting was presided over by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, with attendance from Punjab Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan and other key officials. The meeting also featured participation from various cardiac institutes via video link, along with officials from Pakistan Post. The focus was on addressing any complaints regarding the delivery of medicines to registered patients.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Provincial Health Minister emphasized the success of the initiative to deliver free medicines to patients at their doorsteps. The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department is conducting live tracking of medicine parcels through an online dashboard, with deliveries facilitated by Pakistan Post. From January 2025 to September 2026, two million medicine parcels have been dispatched to registered patients, with over 750,000 patients receiving free medicines valued at PKR 1.772 billion. This initiative aligns with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to enhance healthcare facilities.

Azmat Mahmood Khan, Secretary of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, noted that free medicines are also being distributed to patients in remote areas, with efforts to expand the project’s reach into rural regions. The Provincial Health Secretary mentioned that Pakistan Post has been instructed to improve the medicine delivery system and address any complaints promptly.
