Lahore: On the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a zero-tolerance policy against violations of environmental laws is being strictly enforced across Punjab, with indiscriminate and multi-sectoral enforcement operations continuing throughout the province. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that the government is taking firm action against those violating environmental laws to achieve the vision of a clean, green, and pollution-free Punjab.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the enforcement measures involve continuous monitoring, inspections, and strengthened action against major sources of pollution to ensure a clean and healthy environment for the residents. As part of the enforcement actions, 166 brick kilns were inspected, resulting in the demolition of one kiln and the sealing of three others over environmental violations. Additionally, fines totaling Rs. 300,000 were imposed on brick kiln owners found in violation of the laws.
The crackdown extends to industrial pollution, with 114 industrial units inspected and seven units sealed for failing to comply with environmental regulations. These operations led to fines amounting to Rs. 400,000 being imposed on the violators. Efforts to control plastic pollution have also intensified. The Environmental Protection Agency Punjab inspected 132 locations, confiscated 1,515 kilograms of illegal plastic, sealed 20 locations, and imposed fines totaling Rs. 180,000 for violations related to plastic regulations.
In addition, measures are being implemented to curb fugitive dust emissions from construction sites. Notices have been issued for violations, and mist sprinklers have been installed at construction sites to control dust emissions effectively.
Minister Aurangzeb emphasized that, in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, the strict enforcement of environmental laws will persist to ensure a clean and pollution-free Punjab. “Those causing environmental pollution will not be given any concession, and strict action will be taken against violators in accordance with the law,” she affirmed.

The government promises continuous and effective monitoring of environmental regulations and immediate action against violations across the province.
