Amman: Protesters gathered in the streets of Amman to express solidarity with Gaza as Israel ramped up its military operations following the breakdown of a ceasefire that had lasted two months. The truce ended on March 18, leading to renewed violence in the region.
Last week, Israel resumed bombing and ground operations, which had been paused for the duration of the ceasefire. This escalation has increased pressure on Hamas to release hostages still in captivity.
Since the resumption of major military strikes on March 18, at least 855 people have been reported killed, with more than half of the casualties being women and children.
The ceasefire had provided a brief respite for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, offering a period of relative calm before the recent hostilities resumed. Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of breaking the truce that was in place.
The ongoing conflict has left Gaza in ruins, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis faced by its inhabitants. The protest in Amman reflects growing regional concern over the situation and calls for an end to the violence.
