Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering support for multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in global affairs. This declaration was made during a meeting with Ambassador Olara Otunnu, a candidate for the United Nations Secretary-General position, in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Otunnu, accompanied by Ruhakana Rugunda, the Special Envoy of the President of Uganda and former Prime Minister of Uganda, engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Sharif. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the principles and purposes outlined in the United Nations Charter and stressed the importance of respecting international law and treaties.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed hope that the next Secretary-General would maintain a balanced focus on the United Nations’ three pillars: peace and security, development, and human rights. Ambassador Otunnu acknowledged Pakistan’s significant contributions to multilateralism and its leadership role in promoting international peace and security.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.
