ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to accelerate reforms within the health sector, following an emergency meeting in Islamabad, as he addressed issues highlighted by a recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister, who returned from Kyrgyzstan to preside over the meeting, was briefed on challenges facing the health sector and the current investigation into the PIMS fire. Sharif emphasized that there would be no tolerance for officials found guilty of negligence in the incident.

In addition to demanding improvements in healthcare and treatment facilities at PIMS, the Prime Minister ordered the strict enforcement of safety measures. He directed the Health Minister and Secretary Health to visit PIMS on alternate days to oversee the implementation of improvements.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Secretary Health Captain (Retired) Muhammad Mahmood, and PIMS Executive Director Dr. Muhammad Salman. It was noted that the implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives is progressing in accordance with the interim investigation report.
